Gov’t must do More to Develop Agric, Roads in 2023 Budget– MP for Chereponi 

THE Member of Parliament for Chereponi, Hon Abdul-Razak Tahidu has called on the government to prioritize agriculture and roads as parliament approved the 2023 budget statement and economic policy.

According to him, agriculture and good roads hold the key to the nation’s development and more support from the budget should be tailored to the sectors.

Hon Tahidu made the call after parliament on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, approved the budget statement [ending approval of budget statements and the appropriation Bill.

He said Chereponi is one of the agriculture hubs of the country where rice, soya beans, and Sesame are largely produced, yet the road network in the constituency remained the most inaccessible and abandoned.

The MP expressed the hope that the budget would make room for enough funds to boost the agriculture and the roads sectors as well as the health sector which remained dear to the hearts of the people of Chereponi.

He commended the government for the good policies implemented in the last few years and hope the policies would be improved to assist farmers to provide sustainable healthy and affordable food for the people.

Hon Tahidu added that despite the government’s efforts, large chunks of food produce are still lost through harvesting and post-harvest handling due to bad roads in his constituency.

He urged the government to ensure that adequate food processing machines and storage facilities are provided to farmers to end this problem.

On health, he said, access to healthcare is an important need but remained a key problem as many of the constituents in deprived communities could not access healthcare.

The MP expressed fear that, if the government fail to address the challenges in his constituency, especially on access to market centers and health post continue to linger.

He again thanked the people of Chereponi and urged that they continue to live in peace and harmony as he continues to lobby for the development of the area.
