At most, 136 Members of Parliament Ghana on Thursday, December 8, 2022, passed a vote of no confidence on Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The vote was taken after members of the Majority side of the House staged a walkout in protest against the censure of the Minister.
The Minority MPs led by its leader, Haruna Iddrissu filed the motion urging parliament to censure the Minister over multiple of corruption-related issues, citing the Minister for conflict of interest.
Article 82 of Ghana’s Constitution empowered the Parliament to revoke the appointment of a Minister by censuring with a two-thirds majority of the total 1 75 MPs voting.
However, events turned out to the opposition as the majority declined the interest to be part of the censure motion and boycotted the voting.

Leader of the Majority, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Mensah, who led the walkout, his side cannot be part of a process that is baseless and politically motivated.
Nevertheless, all 136 NDC MPs cast their votes in favour of the motion to revoke the appointment of the Minister.
They however fall short to meet the constitutional threshold of two-thirds of the total 275 Members of Parliament.
The motion, which was debated on Thursday, December 2022, and subsequently voted on, had only the Minority members voting through the secret ballot.
